Okonomiyaki – A recipe for Japanese street food of pancakes with cabbage, eggs, and delicious toppings.
Okonomiyaki originates from Osaka, Japan, and is a “food” pancake, not a sweet pancake.
Ingredients
Okonomiyaki sauce
2 tbsp. ketchup
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. oyster sauce
1 tsk. sugar
Okonomiyaki
3 eggs
35 g all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. soya sauce
65 g white cabbage, finely chopped
1-2 carrots, grated
1 spring onions, finely chopped
A little oil for frying
Extras
1 spring onion, finely chopped
Mayonnaise
Sriracha
Sesame seeds
Approach
Okonomiyaki sauce
Stir the ingredients together into a combined sauce. Set aside.
Okonomiyaki
Whisk the eggs, flour and soya sauce together into a lump-free batter. Stir the cabbage, carrots and spring onions into the batter. Heat a pan with oil and fry 1 pancake in the oil for 2-3 min. on each side.
Garnish the warm pancake with the sauce, spring onion, mayonnaise, sriracha, and sesame seeds and serve immediately. Enjoy!
